Local SEO in the Midlands: How to Rank in Leicester, Coventry, Birmingham and Nottingham
If you serve customers in more than one Midlands city, local search is both an opportunity and a trap. Here is how to win it without copying the same page ten times.
Plenty of businesses serve more than one place. A trades firm may cover Leicester and Coventry, an accountant may work with clients in Birmingham and Nottingham, and a manufacturer may sell across the whole region. Local search can bring those customers to you, but the usual shortcut of copying one page and swapping the town name is exactly what search engines have learned to ignore. Here is the approach that works.
Start with Google Business Profile
For local searches, your Business Profile often matters as much as your website. Claim it, choose the right main category, add every service, upload real photographs and keep your hours accurate. If you have a physical location in a city, that location needs its own profile. If you travel to customers, set your service areas honestly rather than listing every town in the region.
Build real pages for real places
A location page earns its place only if it says something genuine about that place. Describe the work you have actually done there, the types of customers you serve, any local landmarks, estates or industries you know, and the practicalities of how you work in that area. Include photographs, a local testimonial and a clear call to action. A page like that helps a visitor in that city. A copied page helps nobody.
Match the page to the search
People searching in Leicester or Coventry use phrasing that mentions the place and the service. Put the city and the service in the page title, the main heading and the opening paragraph in a natural way, and answer the questions people in that area ask. Avoid stuffing the same phrase repeatedly, which reads badly and does not help.
Reviews are the local currency
Reviews carry heavy weight in local results. Ask every satisfied customer, ideally soon after the job, and make it easy with a direct link. Reviews that mention the town and the service are especially useful, and replying to every review, good or bad, shows you are active and professional. Never buy or invent reviews.
Consistency across the web
Your name, address and phone number should match on your website, your profile, directories and social media. Inconsistent details confuse search engines and customers alike. Check the main directories and the chamber of commerce listings for your area, such as those for Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Coventry and Warwickshire and Birmingham, and correct anything out of date.
Earn local links and mentions
Links from local organisations are strong signals. Think of chambers of commerce, business networks, local press, sponsored clubs and charities, supplier and partner pages and events you take part in. A few genuine local mentions are worth more than dozens of low quality directory links.
Make the site fast and mobile friendly
Most local searches happen on a phone, often with someone ready to call. Pages must load quickly, show the phone number prominently and make contacting you effortless.
